To our Enjoy Life Foods Community,
The killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery have profoundly affected us, not to mention the numerous incidents that preceded these.
Since 2001, Enjoy Life’s values have included openness and inclusiveness, but more importantly, we are all human, and our collective humanity should guide us as much as what is written on the office walls.
We are taking the time to reflect, listen, and learn so that we can take action to help make our community and world a more understanding place.
From the beginning, our mission has been to make allergy-friendly, gluten-free foods available to everyone, everywhere. We still have much work to do. Research shows, African American children are the most at-risk group to develop food allergies and have less access to resources and allergy-friendly food.
To help address this disparity, we commit to:
- Providing in-kind donations to Black-led organizations working to solve food insecurity. To start, we are providing an in-kind donation, valued at $10,000, to Food Equality Initiative (FEI), an organization dedicated to improving health and ending hunger in individuals diagnosed with food allergies and celiac disease.
- Supporting organizations that bring awareness and understanding of food allergies in the African American community. We are partnering with the Elijah-Alavi Foundation, an organization created to raise awareness of the importance of anaphylaxis / severe food allergy education and safety, as well as asthma with allergies.
- Developing an internal team committed to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Enjoy Life Foods workplace and broader community.
We can and will do better. At Enjoy Life Foods, we will continue to stand against racism and hate and stand shoulder to shoulder with the Black community.
