Celiac Disease Didn’t Stop Izzy from Enjoying Life

izzy1Happy Celiac Awareness Month & Food Allergy Action Month! To celebrate all month long, we are featuring some standouts in the Celiac and Food Allergy community. They go above and beyond to bring awareness and share their stories.

Next up is Izzy, a 10-year-old who is currently in 5th grade. Izzy dressed up as our Double Chocolate Crunchy Cookies for Halloween last year, which intrigued us to learn more about her. Read our interview below!

Enjoy Life: Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Izzy: Hi, I’m Isabella. My family and friends call me Izzy, though, and I prefer being called Izzy. I am 10 years old and am in 5th grade. I live in River Vale, New Jersey. Some hobbies I like are singing, soccer, running, skateboarding, and lots of other sports.

Enjoy Life: We were honored to be your Halloween costume inspiration last year. Tell us about it. How did you choose that costume?

izzy2Izzy: I decided to be a box of Enjoy Life cookies because it was a unique, crafty, and delicious idea!

Enjoy Life: What do you plan to be next year for Halloween? Perhaps a bag of Plentils?!

Izzy: Although I love Plentils very VERY much, I already had another idea. But don’t worry, I will remember the bag of Plentils idea. For this upcoming Halloween, I want to be a Smartypants/Nerd. I would stick Smarties all over my pants, and on a pair of glasses, I will put a box of nerds.

Enjoy Life: Fair enough, Izzy. The Smartypants idea is pretty awesome too. So many people still don’t understand celiac disease and your new lifestyle. If you could tell the world one thing about celiac disease what would it be?

Izzy: Celiac Disease is a struggle for about a month or so. Sometimes it may be hard to find something to eat. But when you do, sometimes you forget you’re celiac.

Q: Anything else you’d like to share with us about yourself?

Izzy: I would like to talk about my singing. It started when I was little. I sang at an Oktoberfest that all my friends were at. Then, in 3rd grade, I made a song and I sing it every year for Arbor Day at my school. Recently, I sang at a coffee shop. You could watch for yourself! Just look up youtube.com/ridgewoodcoffeecompanyopenmicnight and that is where you’ll find me!
